A left-wing Jewish organization gives a prime spot at the U.K.’s biggest festival of Jewish learning to a Fatah operative.

MK Moshe Saada, who was granted a place In the Likud party list by Prime Minister Netanyahu, has submitted new legislation to bring the Police Investigations Department under the authority of the Justice Ministry, according to a new report in Israel Hayom.The language of the bill states that the PID will be granted authority not Inly to investigate police officers suspected of crime, but also to investigate Shabak operatives and those who work for the State Prosecution Service. The bill notes that, "The directorate of the department will be appointed by the Justice Minister," and that, "Only a person who is eligible to serve as a Supreme Court Justice will be considered for the position of director of the PID."To date, the PID has been an internal police department, leading to a situation in which the police are responsible for investigating their own which many criticize as consisting a conflict of interest.

58 MKs vote in favor of the bill, 13 oppose it. The proposal will now be prepared for its second and third readings.

Speaking In Galei Tzahal this morning, Minister for Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli (Likud) sharply criticized MK Benny Gantz, head of the National Unity party, who recently called In the general public to flock to the streets in protest against the new government's proposed judicial reforms."The gist of his words was that Netanyahu is leading the country toward civil war, and that is something that a politician should never permit himself to say," Chikli said. "And what is all this talk of 'we'll shake up the country'? This isn't Gantz talking - we all know what he's like."

Speaking In Radio 103FM this morning, MK Matan Kahana (National Unity) discussed the government's proposed judicial reforms, and predicted that they would be overturned in the future, when the current government is voted out of power."The situation as it stands today does need fixing it's a situation in which the Supreme Court Justices have a surfeit of power," Kahana said. "But what [Justice Minister] Yariv Levin intends to do is lead a government revolution in this area, taking all the power within the judiciary and transferring it to the government."He added that, "In the end, the fate of this legislation will be the exact same fate of the reforms to the kosher supervision laws [which Kahana began to implement during the previous government's term]. The opposition will come along and cancel it all [when it regains power]."
